Complete care guide for Leopard Gecko. Follow these guidelines to provide optimal husbandry and health for your pet.

Overview

Small, nocturnal lizards from Asian deserts. Easy care, distinct personalities, no UVB required. Perfect for apartment dwellers.

Enclosure

20-gallon long aquarium (30" x 12" x 12") per adult. Provide 2+ hides, moist hide with sphagnum moss. Tight, secure spaces preferred.

Temperature

Warm spot: 88-92°F. Cool side: 75-80°F. Under-tank heater with thermostat. Nighttime: 75-80°F. Less temperature-sensitive than other reptiles.

Humidity

Low (30-40%) but need moist hide for shedding. Humidity hide filled with moist moss essential. Good ventilation important.

Lighting

Nocturnal, no UVB required. 12:12 hour light/dark cycle recommended. Keep bright lights away from rest areas.

Diet

Insects only: crickets, roaches, mealworms, hornworms. Juveniles: daily. Adults: every other day. Dust with calcium 3-4x/week. Small water dish.

Handling

Tolerate handling once acclimated. 2-3 times weekly for short sessions. May drop tails if stressed - don't grab tail. Regenerate over time.

Health

Generally hardy. Rare metabolic bone disease. Watch for impaction, shedding problems. Moist hide prevents issues. Live 10-20+ years.
