Overview

Corn snakes are docile, beautiful snakes from the southeastern US. They're excellent for beginners and experienced keepers. Hardy and long-lived.

Enclosure

40-gallon breeder tank (36" x 18" x 18") minimum for adults. 75-gallon ideal for larger individuals. Provide hides, branches, and climbing space.

Temperature

Warm spot: 85-88°F. Cool side: 75-85°F. Thermal gradient essential. Under-tank heater with thermostat. Nighttime can drop to 70°F.

Humidity

Low to moderate (40-60%). Provide water bowl. Good ventilation prevents respiratory issues.

Lighting

12:12 hour light/dark cycle recommended. Low-level UVB 2.0 beneficial but not required.

Diet

Hatchlings: pinky mice. Adults: medium to large mice or small rats. Feed every 7-10 days. Frozen-thawed prey safer and preferred.

Handling

Highly handleable, can be held 2-3 times per week. Curious and gentle snakes. Support body weight properly.

Health

Hardy species. Watch for mites, scale rot, feeding issues. Excellent for long-term care. Can live 15-20+ years in captivity.
