Complete care guide for Ball Python. Follow these guidelines to provide optimal husbandry and health for your pet.

Overview

Ball pythons are docile, slow-moving snakes native to West Africa. They curl into a ball when stressed. Perfect for beginners due to their calm temperament and manageable size.

Enclosure

Minimum 40 gallons (36" x 18" x 18"). Provide two hides (warm and cool side). Use aspen, cypress mulch, or coconut husk substrate. Avoid cedar and pine.

Temperature

Cool side: 75-80°F, Warm side: 85-90°F. Use under-tank heater with thermostat. Nighttime: 75°F. Use temperature gun to monitor.

Humidity

Low humidity (40-60%). Provide water bowl. Ensure good ventilation to prevent respiratory issues.

Lighting

Crepuscular/nocturnal. UVB not required but beneficial. 12:12 hour light/dark cycle recommended.

Diet

Hatchlings: pinky mice. Adults: medium to large rats/rabbits. Feed every 7-10 days. Frozen-thawed prey recommended.

Handling

Docile and handleable 1-2 times per week. Avoid handling 48 hours after feeding to prevent regurgitation.

Health

Watch for respiratory infections, mites, scale rot, and food refusal. Regular vet checkups recommended. Can live 20+ years.
